In an exclusive three day event at the Mandelstam Theatre of Performing Arts, The Jacksina Company presents Fool's Paradise a new musical by Jim Camacho.
When Hitler’s SS Troops marched into Paris on June 14th, 1940 they trampled anyone in their way on the Champs Elysees as they headed towards the Arc de Triomphe and their victory over the French people. As they suffocated France they closed down the cafes, restaurants, theatres, cinemas, concert halls, markets, fairs, museums, libraries, pools, public gardens and playgrounds. On direct orders from Hitler, they left the circuses alone, allowing them to tour the countryside entertaining the peasants. Big mistake on the part of the Nazis. The circuses immediately became a national underground railroad and the infra-structure that mobilized the French Resistance’s gun smuggling. “FOOLS’ PARADISE” is a rock musical inspired by and dedicated to those courageous circus performers willing to risk their lives nightly to entertain an audience 70 feet below their high wires and daily to liberate their beloved country and its enslaved citizens. Amidst this larger than life, death defying story is an innocent love match between two of the circus’s stars that openly challenges the occupation forces.
The cast of 19 will be joined by horse whisperers, lion tamers, tightrope walkers, stilt dancers, jugglers, aerial walkers, aerial silks, trapeze artists, high wire angels, mystical snake charmers, elastic acrobatic gymnasts, massive giant men, the tallest in the world, diminutive dwarfs, the smallest in the world, harlequin clowns and the jesters of the commedia dell’art.
