The following is used with permission from Carey Anderson (added February 20, 2007)
Carey Anderson was born in Van Wert, Ohio and moved to Indiana while in grade school. Where she grew up, musical theatre was definitely not the main stream, but she always knew playing sports wasn't for her. Once she graduated from high school, Carey attended Butler University to study vocal performance but, studying only classical music, she missed musical theatre. Carey transferred after two years at Butler to Millikin University and got her BFA in Musical Theatre.
Carey worked at regional theatres until landing a job in the ensemble of the 2nd National Tour of Mamma Mia, where she understudied the role of "Sophie Sheridan". After a year on the road, Carey was asked to audition for the role on Broadway, and got it! She began playing the role of "Sophie" October 19th, 2005. A fun fact is that three days later, the company let her have her first weekend off to go back home to Indiana to get married to actor Devon Goffman. She may be the only person to debut on Broadway and get married all in the same week!
Carey renewed her contract to play the role of "Sophie" for Mamma Mia's 5th anniversary.
